Springing into Rowing

We’re thrilled to be back rowing out of Port Isaac again for the spring
and summer season, with crews enjoying being back on the sea and
making the most of some beautiful conditions. It’s been a busy and
exciting few weeks for the club, especially following our return from the
World Pilot Gig Championships in the Isles of Scilly, where our crews
represented Port Isaac with huge determination, team spirit, and pride.
With a mix of experienced rowers and members taking part in their very
first Scillies, it was an unforgettable weekend both on and off the water.
Our Women’s Super Vets crew delivered a fantastic result, finishing 4th
in their heat and 28th overall out of 40 crews, while our other Women’s
and Men’s crews also rowed strongly throughout the competition. We
couldn’t be prouder of everyone who rowed, supported, and cheered us
on.
Back home, we enjoyed a brilliant evening down at the harbour for the
christening of our brand-new gig trolleys, expertly made by our very own
Chrissy! It was a fantastic social evening and a real reminder of the
incredible support and talent within our club.
We’ve also officially launched our Crowdfunder for a new plastic gig,
which will help make rowing more accessible for new members, reduce
maintenance demands on the club, and provide a practical training and
community boat for year-round use. The response so far has been
fantastic and we’re hugely grateful to everyone who has donated or
shared the campaign. Every contribution helps us move closer towards
securing the future of rowing in Port Isaac.
Looking ahead, regatta season is now well underway, with upcoming
events including Zennor Regatta, Newquay Champs, Falmouth Regatta,
and of course our own regatta at Port Gaverne on Sunday 12th July. We
hope to see plenty of support on the shoreline as another exciting
summer of gig rowing gets underway!
