September News
It’s been another busy month for Port Isaac Rowing Club, with some fantastic rowing, brilliant social events and plenty happening behind the scenes as we look towards the winter months.
The Great River Race
One of the biggest highlights was sending Corsair all the way to London for the Great River Race. A crew of our rowers took on the incredible 21-mile course along the River Thames, flying the flag for Cornwall and representing PIRC with pride.
It was a huge challenge and a fantastic experience for the crew, with some rowing it for the first time… 21 miles is a long way in a gig! A massive well done to everyone involved, and thank you to those who towed Corsair to London and back.

Social on the Platt
Closer to home, we had a great time at our recent PIRC social on the Platt, serving up fish baps and enjoying an afternoon together. It was lovely to see members, friends and supporters coming along, enjoying some food and helping to raise funds for the club. We also affiliated our new rowers and welcomed them fully into the club after completing their training rows.
We’ve also been making the most of every opportunity to get out on the water from Port Isaac Harbour, squeezing in some great rowing whenever conditions allow.
We are also embarking on training up some new coxes, learning all the things we need to consider before we take out a crew in a gig, covering all aspects of gig safety, sea conditions, management of the gig and crew. Such a great experience for our club to build on all the talent and experience we have with our rowers and imparting that knowledge to others.
As we head towards winter, we’re starting to look at opportunities to row from Rock, where the estuary can offer calmer and more predictable conditions during the winter months. We’re looking forward to keeping crews on the water and making the most of the opportunities available to us over the coming months.
