August Round-Up

August was another action-packed month for Port Isaac Rowing Club,

with plenty of racing, community events and some memorable rows both

home and away.

One of the highlights had to be our eclipse row with our friends from Padstow

and Rock Rowing Clubs. Crews headed out onto the estuary, rowing out

towards Daymer Bay to watch the eclipse together from the water. A pretty

special place to experience it and a lovely evening of rowing and friendship

between the three clubs.

It was then onto Clovelly Regatta, a favourite regatta on our calendar. This

was followed by a double-header weekend, heading to Boscastle Harbour

Regatta on the Sunday, where our Masters crew put in a fantastic

performance to win their race.

We joined in the fun at Lifeboat Larks on the Platt in Port Isaac , with one of

our gigs on display and club members chatting to visitors about all things

Cornish gig rowing, while supporting our much-loved RNLI. It was a great day

and always a pleasure to be part of such a brilliant Port Isaac community

event.

We also took part in the Richard Bobeck Memorial Race Day, hosted by

Padstow Rowing Club. Mixed crews from across the clubs came together for a

fantastic day of friendly racing and camaraderie, with Corsair finishing as the

overall winner of the day.

Further afield, one of our crews travelled to Teignmouth to take on the

notoriously tough Five Islands Race. It’s a gruelling challenge, and our crew

rowed brilliantly and did Port Isaac proud.

And amongst all of that, August has simply been a month of fantastic rowing

out of Port Isaac, with men’s, women’s and mixed crews making the most of

the summer and getting plenty of time on the water.

As we head into September, there’s still plenty more rowing and racing to

come. A huge thank you, as always, to everyone who rows, coxes, organises,

supports and helps keep us on the water.
