August Update

July certainly kept us on our toes! Unfortunately, we had to make the difficult

decision to cancel our Regatta at Port Gaverne, due to the extreme heatwave.

While it was disappointing, the safety of rowers, volunteers and umpires had

to come first.

Not wanting the day to go to waste, we quickly turned it into a wonderful social

gathering on the Platt in Port Isaac. A huge thank you to Pinky and Rob for

serving up fantastic food, and to everyone who came along to support us. We

also enjoyed getting the gigs out on the water for some friendly rowing and

good-natured banter with members from neighbouring clubs who joined us. It

was a brilliant way to turn disappointment into a memorable community day.

Thank you to everyone who bought food and raffle tickets – together we

raised over £300 for our chosen charity, The Grand Appeal, Bristol Children's

Hospital Charity.

It’s been another busy month on the water too. We enjoyed rowing up the

Camel Estuary to Wadebridge to support the annual raft race, always a fun

day in the calendar. We've also been taking part in the Doom Bar Races,

organised by Padstow Rowing Club, where a little friendly local rivalry always

adds to the excitement! Earlier in the month, a crew of our ladies also

represented the club at the Geoff Pearce Memorial Race in Newquay.

Looking ahead, we're really excited about our next fundraising event on Friday

29th August. Join us on Port Isaac Platt from 2pm for a Beach Team

Challenge, where gig rowing crews will take on the Port Isaac RNLI crews in

what promises to be a fun-filled afternoon of competition! There will also be a

BBQ, refreshments and a raffle, so come along and cheer everyone on. Keep

an eye on our social media channels, website and posters around the village

for more details.

As always, if you've ever fancied giving gig rowing a try, we'd love to welcome

you. Get in touch through our website or social media and join our Ready

Steady Go programme – you might just discover your new favourite sport!
