Club News – January

Winter fitness training is well underway at Port Isaac Rowing Club, with two sessions a week keeping us strong through the colder months – one at Hawksfield Gym and another at the Village Hall. These sessions are all about building fitness and teamwork as we prepare for the season ahead, with a particular focus on upcoming regattas and the World Gig Championships on the Isles of Scilly in early May. Getting the hard work done now sets us up perfectly for the racing months to come.

On the water, we’ve been enjoying winter rowing out of Rock in Roscarrock, where the estuary offers more predictable conditions at this time of year. That said, we’ve also managed a few outings from Port Isaac in Corsair, which has been a real treat. We hope everyone stayed safe during Storm Garrett – we kept a close eye on Roscarrock while she was moored at Rock and added extra straps ahead of the storm to make sure she was secure.

As we look ahead, we’re busy planning our rowing events calendar. The Roadford League continues for the next couple of months, followed by the Three Rivers and then the World Championships, before we head fully into the gig rowing season. We’re also continuing to welcome new starters through our Ready Steady Go programme, so if you’re thinking about giving rowing a go this year, we’d love to hear from you. Get in touch via email or message us through our social media channels to arrange a trial row.
